The Inn of Intrigue

One of the best nights of gaming I have had is when our party was driven to a roadside inn due to inclimate weather. Then inn itself was chock full of colorful NPCs all with their own machinations, agendas, and motivations. Rumors did fly from other patrons as to the happenings in the inn, and we were neck deep in speculation upon speculation.

Our GM did a wonderful job in fleshing out each, from the smart alecky halfling gambler, to the merchant trying to secret his mysterious cargo. Nobles were there also, but in disguise, as well as thieves working the inn, gals plying their wiles, and other goings on.

Mysterious noises at night, bumps and such, made us wonder about the source, and screaming of course was investigated quickly. A rascally quasit was running amuck invisibly for a while, tormenting when he could. All in all it was a good night, and we got a re-occurring villian out of the whole thing, in the gambler, and oh how we hated him.

The walled inn had a smithy, and stables which also became a source of adventure and mystery.

I think Reaper miniatures had a monster supplement that matched their figs, and our GM used the midnight slayer thing against us. It was a cursed sword that made you an undead killing machine after midnight, and I think fire was the only method of slaying the beast. We of course took a long time figuring this out. We ran out of arrows. I played the fighter known as Hamma. He would look like this above... or something like it.

Anywho, we finally killed the thing, and I would not use the sword cause I was a hammer slammer fighting man, so our rogue was the cursed fool the next night before we torched him, and buried the sword where it fell from his grip, discovering the sword was cursed. It was nice having a book that we (the players) did not have memorized.

Anywho, there was enough fighting, and theatrics for all involved, and I do my very best to include one such as this when I run, usually as a step off the campaign trail, and it does not effect continuity. I have a couple now just laying about.

Give me a shout on the Reaper thing if anyone knows...
