Comic Kung Fu

I have a thought brewing in my head, where they often do, and I thought I would share my brilliance with the little people. I used to read comics often, particularly in college, and it has dwindled over the years until it reached a nonexistent status. However after watching the HERO movies that come out of Hollywood, my mojo began working.

I was a fan of the first cross-over, Shooter's Contest of Champions, and I liked Age of Apocalypse, and even dug Secret Wars. I like the idea of getting a new idea , and looking at it left of center.

Anywho... I was thinking which I am certain most of you have, what would happen if the villians got their do? Not as the heavy but as the hero, just like the Shat in "Mirror Mirror", with the eye patched Sulu, and the Fu Manchued Spock.

For example the Thing would run the Yancy Street Gang, rather than being the target of their vegtable throwing. Lots of possibilities abound from this. I have always been a Doom fan, where peons pay for their insolence, and I would love to see him use his genius for good.

Any ideas from the peanut gallery?

I would also love to base a player character on Eric Von Zipper, famous villian in the Frankie and Annette movies, where he did in fact give people "the finger" just not the way you would think.

The Big Idea

"I want the world. I want the whole world. I want to lock it all up in my pocket. It's my bar of chocolate. Give it to me now. "

I have been world a'building intermittently for quite a spell, and things are coming around nicley. My pantheon sits proudly atop their mountain, except for the Dead God, and my races , both created by holy notion, and those of sorcerous means, are dwelling and doing what they can for themselves. Wars have been fought, kingdoms, heavens, and magics won and lost. But lo...what is that? That is the campaign; the catalyst of world subjugation; the breaking of a world.

Anywho, my system is how I/we had envisioned it to be, more low magic, high on the riddle of steel, where hit points are based on class and size, and armor provides protection from damage. Magik when applied in this system is lethal, if not devastating, when in use. Firepower aplenty. Classes are a necessary evil, perhaps so you can say I am a whatever, but its basically the core four, but with added perkiness. Man at arms have the variations, accordingly, as the campaign sees fit.

I/we wanted the system to be familiar, and easy to retain. It is more simplistic than it reads, but I think I will be at the "kill or be killed" level of the game, where, whomever acts first will kill, or severely maim, their opponent, especially the Big Nasties, dragons and colossal creatures like this big boy before I should be.

We wanted a realistic feel, but did not want to be bogged down in minutia, and who the hell does.
I like the rolling of dice and game interaction that requires the shiny dice and more rolling, but with hits at a low, I will have issues. I think Arduin did the modifiers based on size also, but I dont think the Intergallactic Dragon, and or Nuetronium variety, will fit in my campaign.

Anywho I think I have a nice take on things, with curves here and there, and have incorporated most of the base of d20 so anyone can grasp the system. I just have to do the final approach, and polish off the rust, and give it a playtest, and spellcheck, oh how we hate spellcheck.

Great Light Has Gone Out

Dave Cockrum has passed away. Artist, Genius, Creator, he is no longer with us.

I remember buying this comic myself as a wee lad eons ago. I wish I still had it. It's worth a ton of dough, not that I would have sold it. http://www.davecockrum.net is a tribute site and links to his gallery and tidbits including the characters he created.

He brought us Nightcrawler, Storm, Thunderbird, and others. He was the artist on several books, either cover, or interior, for the likes Spiderman, the X-men, Iron Fist, Star Jammers, and the Avengers.

Although he is not my favorite, I am more of a Simonson, and Romita Jr. fan, his influence, art and creativity will be missed. The world will be a little darker now. His legacy will live on.

Sleep well Dave.
